Reeb's History   Sylvan In-School Learning Centers   Reading Instruction
Reeb Elementary School opened in 1907 and has been serving the residents of the South Side since that time. The school building was enlarged in 1957 in response to increased enrollment. Over time, we have developed relationships with community organizations such as Southside Settlement House, Southeast Lions and the Kiwanis as well as corporate partners including PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Schottensteins and McDonalds. We are proud to serve our community and proud to be part of the Columbus Public Schools. Beginning as a pilot project in Spring 1999, Reeb formed a partnership with Sylvan Learning Centers to bring individual reading instruction to our children while at school. This pilot project included fourth graders at the school. In the 1999-2000 school year, we will be able to provide assistance to 75 students in grades 1-5 who are experiencing difficulties in reading. Each child who participates will receive two hours of individual reading instruction every week. We are excited about being able to bring this opportunity to our children and our community. Reeb Elementary School is proud to provide instruction to our students using a Comprehensive Literature Approach. In essence, our staff uses quality children's literature to teach the fundamentals of reading. Using this approach, the teachers at Reeb will be able to harness your child's natural creativity and curiosity to help guide the learning process. The staff believes that all children learn differently and at different rates. Using a Comprehensive Literature Approach builds on these differences in each child's needs, skills and style of learning at Reeb Elementary School.
