Main Street Elementary School was first erected in 1876 and was called East Friends Street School. In 1907 an addition was built to the south end of the building and the name was changed to Main Street Elementary School.

In 1960, a new and separate building was erected at the southwest corner of the old building, creating a two-building campus.

In 1974, a new addition was added on the East side of the 1960 addition. This addition houses the new and beautiful open-spaced Library Learning Center of which all students are encouraged to make good use.

In the summer of 1976, the 1876 and 1907 structures were demolished. This made more room for our attractive North playground.

Our most famous alumnus are Captain Eddie Rickenbacker of World War I flying fame, and James Clemons, professional basketball coach.

Main Street School was the first school in Columbus to use computers to assist in teaching remedial reading. This has been a very successful program and Main Street Elementary has been a very successful school.
