WHERE KOEBEL IS LOCATED: In the south end of Columbus (just off of State Route 104); three blocks south of Refugee Road; travel south on Fairwood Ave. from Main Street or Livingston Ave.; on the corner of Fairwood Ave. and Koebel Road.
CURRICULUM: Reading, math language arts, science, social studies, health, art, vocal music, physical education and instrumental music.
READING PROGRAM: LACES Reading Program.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS: Crane Plastics Company, Marion-Franklin High School, and the Ohio National Guard.
WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL OUTSTANDING: The superintendent has named Koebel an Exemplary Improvement School 1999-2000, for average gains of 10% or more on student performance on proficiency tests. Koebel received an Equity Award 1999-2000 for reducing the achievement gap based on racial, economic and gender differences. Koebel has also been named as a National Science Foundation School of Excellence. In 2002-2003 school year, Koebel has raised test scores in all subject areas.
WHAT WE DO FOR FUN: The Koebel choir is the official choir for the Veteran's Hall of Fame. We have sung for the governor at his residence and for the mayor at City Hall for the Veteran's Day celebration.
ACTIVITIES: A Project Grad School participant. Student Council, D.A.R.E., Safety Patrol, Chess Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, After-school tutoring (3-5), In-school tutoring, Artist-in-the-school performances, CAP City, Peer Mediation program, Kids For Kids, Winner's Group (3-5) and the Peacemaker's Group (K-2).
CREDENTIALS OF THE TEACHING STAFF: Most of our teachers have their master's degrees and an average of more than eleven years of teaching experience.
