The High School Welcome Center has operated as part of Columbus City Schools since 1999. We have been housed in North Education Center, Southeast Career Center, and at McGuffey School, but this fall (August 2008) we are opening the doors to our permanent home on 2001 Hamilton Ave. (The building that previously housed Linmoor MS.) At the present time, we have a population of over 400 students from 26 different countries.
We serve as both a transition program to build basic English and academic skills for new immigrant arrivals as well as a more traditional high school for students with greater English proficiency. All teachers are certified and trained to work with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
In our new environment, qualifying high-school aged English Languge Learners may participate in a comprehensive 9-12 high school offering all Columbus City Schools required high school courses: English, math, science, social studies, technology, music, art, physical education and a number of electives in the foreign language, business, and fine and practical arts fields. See the About Us link for more details on our course offerrings.
