| Knowledge of Self Tour: From Antiquity to the Present | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The auditorium was packed with every student in the entire school, all the teachers and staff, many parents and family members, and a number of invited special guests, including the Keynote Speaker Baba Les Brown.
Featured on the program were the School Song, "Where Else Can I Go?", written by sixth grade teacher Baba Michael Owens; several excellent performances by members of the Dance Ensemble; and a number of renditions by the Middle School Choir and by the Drum Nation. The drama department presented two works, a monologue of Harriet Tubman performed by S. Nash, and the Kuumba Klub's version of "Frederick Douglass: Reading, Writing, and Freedom." Fourteen members of the highly acclaimed Nubian Step Team gave the final performance of the afternoon program. The Step Team has just returned from a trip to West Virginia to perform at a middle school there, and repeated their finest routines for the enthusiastic audience. Baba Les Brown's comments at the conclusion of the program repeated the message heard throughout the program: "I can be whatever I choose to be." |
