Your Pathway To The Future
Careers in the 21st century require high academic and technical skills. Employers will be looking for those individuals who have problem solving skills, can work on a team, and who are able to continue learning new technology and skills.

To be successful you need ways to plan and prepare so that you can become one the leaders in this new century. You need a school that combines a college preparatory curriculum with career preparation in smaller classroom settings, with more attention on you as an individual to help you achieve your dreams. You can find that with the Columbus Pathways to Success Initiative (CPSI).

What is the Columbus Pathways to Success Initiative?
CPSI is a high school reform initiative, that involves the total community, to provide the highest academic and career preparation for students. It based on research of major educational reform models around the world and founded on the standards that business and industry have established as essential for success. Columbus Public Schools, the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Columbus State Community College, and the Columbus Education Association are leading the way with our business and community partners to provide everything a student needs to choose an education and career path and be successful.

      • An improved and aligned curriculum and instruction
      • Research based teaching strategies
      • Safety net programs

Your Pathway...

Begins in the 8th grade when you sit down with your parents and your counselor to discuss your plans for the future. From your grades and proficiency test scores it will be determined if you should attend the Summer Bridge Program.

In the Summer Bridge you can accelerate your math and reading skills. You will also gain the tools to make your study time more effective and plan your work. After you've successfully completed the Summer Bridge, or if it is determined you don't need Summer Bridge, you will be ready to enter the Freshmen Success Academy.

The Freshmen Success Academy will be your introduction to the College Preparatory Curriculum that all regular students will take at CPSI high schools. You will be part of a team of students who share the same teachers all year. Your teachers will also be your advisors for academic and career planning in an Advisor/Advisee Program. Towards the end of your ninth grade year you, with the help of your parent(s) and advisor will decide on which academy or institute you would like to select at your school.

Columbus Pathways to Success high schools offer career focus in

  • Arts & Communications
  • Business*
  • Health Sciences*

When you choose an academy or institute, according to your career interest, you will be introduced to a team of teachers who will be with you throughout the rest of your high school experience. This team of teachers will continue the Advisor/Advisee Program that began your freshmen year.

In the 10th grade you will take a foundation course that will introduce you to the career field you have chosen and highlight the pathways (or concentrations) offered within your major area. At the end of your sophomore year you will choose a pathway to focus on as a junior and senior. Elective courses focused on your interest will give you detailed knowledge about the career field you have chosen, as well as hands-on practical experience.

Throughout your educational experience there will be extra-help ready for you if you need it. With the Advisor/Advisee program, all your teachers will always know how you are doing and will be ready to help you meet the benchmarks in your studies.
