Description
Without the government agencies at the city, state, and national level our country could not function. Government employees provide services as varied as refuse collection and tax collection to national security and legislation development. Even with the proper training most government jobs require the taking of a civil service test to be considered for employment.
The Future
The Government Service cluster will provide about 2 out of every 5 job openings in the next century. Little, if any growth is expected at the state or federal level. These types of jobs will grow about 10% in the next 13 years, primarily at the local level. Employment with the federal government and U.S. Postal Service will decline by 113,000 and 41,000 jobs respectively.
