Description
This pathway emphasizes science and mathematics as well as strong computer and communication skills in order to be successful in this area. Engineers design products, the machinery to build those products, and the factories where the products are made. Many engineers also work in testing, production, and management. They work in every area from computers to space as well as health care products and harnessing energy. Scientists work in both laboratory settings and in the field. Petroleum, agricultural and environmental scientists work outdoors. Gathering information, testing, and solving problems is a large part of what scientists do in areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Medicine.

Employment opportunities in engineering and science are expected to increase about as fast as the average (10 to 20 % increase) for all occupation. More engineers will be needed to improve or build new roads, bridges, water and pollution control systems, and other public facilities. There is an increased need for science technicians, agricultural, biological, and medical scientists.
