Common Core Curriculum

Based on the State of Ohio standards, all students will complete a standards based program of instruction with an enhanced academic core. An academic core includes:

  • Four credits of college prep English
  • Three credits of science (chemistry, physics)
  • Three credits of mathematics beginning with Algebra I
  • Three credits of social studies
  • Three credits of foreign language
  • Four credits in a major field of study
  • Two credits in technology or a related field

Post-secondary institutions will offer summer college courses and participate in articulation agreements.


Graduation Requirements

To earn the College Preparatory Certificate upon graduation from Columbus Public Schools a student must have at least:

  • Four (4) credits in English
  • Three (3) credits in math (Algebra I and higher)
  • Three (3) credits in science (at least one lab science: chemistry or physics)
  • Three (3) credits in social studies
  • Three (3) credits in one foreign language.
  • One (1) credit in a required elective
  • One (1) credit in technology
  • One (1) credit for internship (mandatory beginning for class of 2003)
  • Pass all parts of the Ohio High School Proficiency Test or beginning in 2002 all parts of the High School Graduation Test*

    *Course names and sequences could change in response to the new high school competencies.
