School bus drivers hired by the Columbus City Schools (CCS) Transportation Department must meet standards developed by CCS and state law. All potential employees are subject to a criminal history record check, work history/personal background check, and are required to undergo drug and alcohol testing before being hired. A driver must also pass an annual physical examination. Columbus City Schools will help provide training for obtaining a C.D.L. license and the required (12) hour bus driver certification course.

School bus drivers earn a very competitive wage and have the benefit of a regular school schedule, allowing parents to be home with their children. Many of our most experienced drivers started driving because it worked so well with their schedules while their children attended CCS. If you have an interest in learning to drive a school bus, or have questions, please call 614-365-5074. If you are up to the challenge, and are seeking a good wage for your time spent, and work with children; be sure to visit one of the scheduled Columbus City Schools Transportation Department Job Fairs, in partnership with the Columbus Schools Employees Association/OAPSE.
